To be able to reflect one needs to be still and to be in the present moment
The key to reflection is TO BE STILL – to still our bodies, our minds and our emotions.
When the body is still we concentrate on the breath. It is very simple – so simple in fact a lot of people find it hard. T0 BE STILL in our modern world is not easy. We are surrounded by noise, movement, images, constant thinking, judging, planning – always doing, rushing here, rushing there.
One of our most common responses when asked how we are is to say how busy we have been or indeed are.
Take time to be still, to listen, to read, to ponder, to wonder, to look, to see, to hear, to touch, to taste. Not to be analytic, not to be critical – simply to be……..and let the moment enter into you and you into the moment.
It is a conscious decision to reflect. One needs to give herself/ himself the gift of TIME. Time out to be still – time to be here, now; time to be present to the present moment.
As part of the preparation for the Province Chapter, reflection sheets are being sent around the network. You have been invited to use the material on these sheets whichever way you want. Take the time to enter into the quotes, passages and questions on these sheets. Let them enter into your being, (not just your head), and let them enter into your heart.
Fr. Tony DeMello SJ uses the following story in his book “One Minute Wisdom”.
Where shall I look for Enlightenment?
Here
When will it happen?
It is happening right now.
Then why don’t I experience it?
Because you do not look.
What should I look for?
Nothing. Just look.
At what?
Anything your eyes alight upon.
Must I look in a special kind of way?
No. The ordinary way will do.
But don’t I always look the ordinary way.
No.
Why ever not?
Because to look you must be HERE. You’re mostly somewhere else.
