Theme: Invitation to Listening

THEME: INVITATION TO LISTENINGAs the enduring journey unfolds we are invited to reflect on listening.

“I am a traveller opening  like a koru my ear”
Anne Powell, New Zealand Poet and Cenacle Sister

“Listening is such a simple act. It requires us to be present, and that takes practice, but we don’t have to do anything else. We don’t have to advise, or coach, or sound wise. We just have to be willing to sit there and listen”.

Margaret Wheatley, author and international speaker

You may like to try these listening exercises:

1. Imagine listening like a baby encountering a sound for the first time.
Then listen like a child, noticing music & rhythm.
What comes to mind?

2. Close your eyes…

Listen to the rhythm and the sound of your own breath. Allow the sounds in the room to fall gently on your ears. Do not think about them, simply hear them as sounds…

(Allow any thoughts that come to float away… come back to the sound of your breath)

Imagine yourself becoming a bird flying through the air and hearing with the bird’s ears…

Imagine yourself a tree and hearing with a tree’s ears…

Feel yourself become part of the earth and hearing what the earth is hearing…

When you are ready, open your eyes…

What was that like? What did you hear?
